The French Cup

Editorial2018

24th Edition ...

In 2017, the French Federation of Ice Sports had wished to enter the organization of this event. The 23rd has been a bit of a transition year for everyone to see how they can bring the best for the future of the French Cup. This year, the organization is tripartite. Indeed, the undeniable success of the event for 24 years, has led the French Federation of Ice Sports (FFSG) and the French Ice Sports League to support the Rouen Olympic Club in the organization of this event. event.

In this context, the Organizing Committee and the few hundred volunteers from Rouen continue to advance the level of demand and quality of the French Cup, which make it a recognized competition on the international circuit and deeply rooted locally. We will welcome 23 teams from 8 different nations. I am delighted to note the presence of all the qualified French teams on the international circuit this year - including Team Jeanne d'Arc.

This year again we will be particularly vigilant in terms of safety. But, the parade of the teams of the different nations will be able to walk in the streets of our city. The finish and all the festivities will be gathered at the rink, including the draw that will launch the competition on Thursday, February 1st. Finally, this edition should be the last competition in the rink Guy Boissière as it exists today, pending the work that will begin after the French Cup and an enlarged gauge that will accommodate even more fans of grace and of technique next year!

I thank you for your interest in this event, recognizing the work done by a team of enthusiasts and the quality of the show provided by the athletes on the ice.

Short story

A short history of the French Cup (not really a history?)

The French Cup ice skating competition was founded in 1994 by the Rouen Olympic Club following its receiving the "Pomme d'or" award, under the auspices of the ISU (ICE SKATING UNION) and the FFSG (French Federation of Winter Sports). This year, 42 teams and 10 nations will participate in the 19th edition.

The Cup is an acclaimed event by the entire international community of competitors and refereeing officials. It has emerged within an international circuit as the competition that allows teams to select the World Championship. (It has emerged as an integral part of the selection process for teams aspiring to compete for the World Championship). 8 out of the 10 world's best senior synchronized ice skating teams this year will be grooving the ice here on Lacroix Island.

Over the years, the French Cup has become one of the most important synchronized ice skating events worldwide. As such, it appears to be a great promoting tool of the discipline in France and hence contributes to its national development.

The French Cup in numbers:

  • 1,000 skaters
  • 5,000 hotel nights
  • 10,000 meals in 4 days
  • 1 Teams Parade
  • 15 hours of live TV programming
  • More than 300,000 web connections
  • 1 flash mob of 1,000 people on the Rouen town hall square
  • More than 100 volunteers
  • And thousands of people happy to participate in the event

As a genuine contributor to the local economy, the event receives support from all local authorities (the Town of Rouen and the urban community of La Créa, the Department of Seine-Maritime and the Regional Council of Upper Normandy) and many private company sponsors. Their constant support over the years was instrumental in allowing the organizers to offer broadened and improved hosting capacities. So much that the French Cup's model of organization may serve as a reference, in France and elsewhere, for similar events of international magnitude.

The local media will also cover the event extensively. France 3 TV, France Bleu Radio in Upper Normandy and daily newspapers will help the event resound in all corners of the region, but also take it to the world stage via their websites.

The joined forces of all those taking part in the event are making it the magical moment that we hope you will enjoy.
